The guy I bought this tom from told me that he was a “wild” turkey. This was my first turkey, so I didn’t know to inquire further. After doing some research, I dont think he is an Eastern Wild. My best guess is Standard Bronze, maybe Merriam.

Does anyone here have any ideas? I can try to get a better picture of him fanned out from the front tomorrow.

Looks like a bronze to me, but I'm no expert!
As far as color variety goes, all of the "wild" turkeys are bronze turkeys whether it is an Eastern Wild, Merriam's or Rio Grande, etc. The only other wild turkey is the Ocellated turkey which is a different species and cannot be mistaken for any other kind of turkey.

Thanks yall, I appreciate your opinions!
Just curious (because I'm sure it would be too expensive to be worth the hassle), but do yall know of any genotyping services out there for turkeys that would analyze a DNA sample and tell you what breed?

he is definitely a bronze at best. possibly a mutt. my bronze turkeys never had any solid wing feathers. a wild turkey (and all my bronze) would have striped(barred) wing feathers.
