ha ha I came across three easter egger chicks, a two month old easter egger, and a frizzle bantam cochin from the same person. Is that too many new birds? are those birds a good choice? I kindof would like to get some now to keep her company rather than waiting till spring when all breeds will be available. Should I hold out or go for it?

I love my black australorps and my buff orps, both are gentle, cold hardy, calm and good brown egg layers.

My Welsummers lay the biggest and darket eggs I have. I also have Cuckoo Marans that lay a large dark egg.
As for Giants, the ones I had were noit great layers, the eggs were not large and the chicks I hatched were slow to mature.
Buff Orpingtons are pretty and mine lay well. Ameraucanas lay well but the eggs are blue or green. Mine always laid a large egg.Barred Rocks and Australorps are also good layers.

Welsummers would be my first choice and Marans second.

If you're looking for eggs, the easter eggers (EE's) would be a good choice. I would stay away from the frizzle bantam cochin for egg production, but they are really cute.

Do you think that six birds in a ten by ten run is too many? I like the idea of having a bantam (and I have always wanted a cochin, and a frizzle, and this one would be both!), but will it get picked on by the bigger ones?

I think you have plenty of room, but......Don't forget to quarantine your new ones, and introductions can be difficult so do some research on that too. Sounds like a nice mix, I'm sure you'll enjoy your new little fuzzy butts.

Great! Thanks! That was what I was waiting to hear! I have already contacted her by email, and am hoping to hear back from her. I will be quarantining them, but for how long? The babies are too little to be out yet, so they will be inside for a while longer, but what about the two month old and the three week old? Is ten days right?

Great. Thanks! Will a dog crate work for a quarantine pen? I have a larger outdoor pen as well, it is two feet tall, but it is eight feet long.
