There are many varieties of Leghorns. They are the egg-laying champions with about six eggs a week on average in a year, and they do well in hot weather. If you have cold winters, you can get the Rose Comb Brown Leghorn.

If you want brown eggs, Rhode Island Reds and Australorps are hardy and can handle both heat and cold. These breeds lay about 5 eggs a week on average in a year.

this is awesome and thanks for all the advice im not so scared about getting chickens and having the heat kill them all

We have EE's, but not bantam, they did well last summer w/ the insane heat, we did put a fan in the coop, but no airconditioning, and made sure they had plenty of water, and water in a container they could walk into, and plenty of shade. I am waiting (not to patiently) for my new little NN (naked neck) chicks, I hear they do very well in both heat and cold.

so cool i am loving all u people lol i guess ill just have to try a few differant types of chickies and see who does best for us deff going to get some EE's though i just cant get enough of those guys lol

Many people seem to decide that they like a variety of chickens, which will also give you a variety of sizes and colors of eggs.

I live in Florida(HOT!) and our feed stores sold Barred Rocks, RIR , and Production Reds. I have all 3- they are little an it's only about 80 in the day now so all are doing well. I will see this summer how they do. We have good ventilation in the coop. I'm going to be giving ice water to them in the heat and shading the coop with a beach umbrella when it gets REALLY hot. Some people say watermelon chilled helps as a treat . I may have to add a fan. Only time will tell! Men are caged birds not free ranging.
