Breed That Actually Lays Blue Eggs?

My Legbars also laid an egg that was much more green than it was blue. One of the breeders on the Legbar thread tried to tell me blue is in the eye of the beholder. Ha Ha! Either it is blue or it is not as far as I sm concerned.
Ha ha...that is pretty funny. :) I used the list that JuneBugga posted and found a few Ameraucana breeder in my area that I am going to check out. Chickengr that egg is such a pretty blue. Cressrb that egg does look quite a bit bluer. I found a breeder in MI that is breeding for blue eggs. They are called porcelain layers which is a Ameraucana/Leghorn split. I might have to take a drive out to her place to see what she has.

I take it you are in the UP. It is so beautiful up there. We are about due to take a summer vacation up that way.

I sure wish I would find a Crested Cream Legbar that laid blue eggs. I love the look at of the breed. Might have to get one anyway. :)

@JensMaverick , my Meyer Hatchery CCL girl actually lays a lovely blue egg!

Take a look; as compared to one of our EE's green eggs-

As already mentioned, true Ameraucanas are fabulous blue egg layers. Also Meyer birds, here's from Boo, our Black Ameraucana, along with a few other layers. Keep in mind that this artificial light throws the colors off a bit.

Can you tell me where you get your "rumpless Amercanas?...I looked for them for a long time and never could find any....Thanks ....Donna

Ameraucana are not rumpless. It's the Araucana that should be rumpless. Many people confuse the two breeds or use the names interchangeably. Please note that Ameraucana and Araucana are two very different breeds. They are not the same things.

Thank you very much Junebuggena for this info...I didn't think they were a different breed but I read some where they don't breed true...Some will have long tails , and some will be rumples......Is this true?....And where can I find some of these as chicks, do you know?....Thanks ....Donna

Rumpless Araucana will breed true. The rumpless gene is a dominant one. Tailed birds do occasionally pop up, due to it being a recessive, but it isn't normal.

The site has both a breeder list and a classifieds section.
