Does he have a strait comb?

Quick guess, maybe a New Hampshire Red or a mix of it, he just has a lot of black on his tail.

He has a straight comb but it's big

Looks like a barnyard mix. White legs. In any case, New Hampshire (no Red) have yellow legs.

Sure, you can "label" him anything you wish, I suppose, but it wouldn't be accurate at all. It's a chicken. It's OK to have a chicken that isn't any particular breed. If he's healthy and the flock keeper enjoys him, that's all that matters.

New Hampshire? No. Not even close.
