Breeder says they are hens ~ are they? *Update* on page 4

He just sent me a text saying that yes, they are roosters. He will try to come up with a couple of pullets and to call him tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

Yea, I don't know what he is going to offer ~ will have to see what he comes up with. I don't want to give him a hard time, I just want a fair trade after almost 7 months of feeding the huge guys.

That's exactly what I was thinking. He knows that RSL pullets are red & the cockerels are white, but he probably didn't know that you can's breed sexlinks to each and get more sexlinks (or he got the male & female breeds backwards when he bred them).

I'm sure it was just an honest mistake and he was not trying to put one over on you.

He is a nice guy, and is retired and started off with a few chickens for his grandchildren and then it became a hobby/side business. I don't know anything about the breeding of birds to question him. He could give me any answer (right or wrong), and I wouldn't know one way or the other.

He is very active in it, takes good care of the birds, and would guess that he is still learning too.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

He doesn't have anything that I am interested in right now and if I bring the roos back to him, he will just sell them at the auction.

So ~ the agreement is:

A friend of mine took the roos. The breeder has 7 White Crested Black Polish chicks that are about 8 weeks old. In about 2 months when we can clearly see which ones are hens, I will get 2 from him.

Very cool! I wanted to say though, be careful... You mentioned that he wanted to see spur growth on that silkie and another 1... Can't always go by that. I think you should post pictures of them so we can play the game some more (because nobody on here actually wants to look at pictures of cute chickens!!

). Glad you came to an agreement!
