My wife and I are just getting into raising chickens for eggs and meat (no showing) and I am about ready to order my initial round of chicks from the hatchery to start out. After reading all fo the suggestions on these message boards it appears obvious that if I want to get a good breeding stock I need to find a quality breeder instead of a hatchery.
Do you know of any breeders in central Ilinois? I'm about a half hour outside of Peoria, and am willing to drive a bit. My wife and I had been considering ordering mostly NH reds, along with a few other breeds for laying to play around with, but I am wiling to try at least a few of any good meat or laying breed.
