Breeders/Sellers, Why Are You Stopping?

There are many people who have "a wicked passion" for what they do, but I would bet if they never see any returns on their money spent
most all of them will at some point lose interest in what they do whether it's a brain surgeon who has a passion for saving lives or someone who loves breeding chickens.

I don't consider myself a breeder compared to a lot of people even tho I breed and cull for the standard in my chosen breeds. I have a lot of requests for my birds, but at this point in time I've pretty well decided to quit shipping hatching eggs.....I personally would rather feed the eggs back to my birds or to the dogs and cats than deal with it any more.

I really enjoy the chickens right now, enjoy fooling with hatching some and seeing how they grow. Enjoy watching them roam over the 10 acres, really funny to watch. Im selling every egg I can produce right now for eating, so I dont have to deal with packing, fretting over having enough eggs to ship, fretting over how they are arriving....I just HATE it when someone reports back that an egg cracked. I enjoy it for me right now, not for selling hatching eggs. Maybe one day Ill lose interest, sell the whole batch at the local auction, maybe to pick up and travel, but for now its a lot of fun and relaxation for me. So right now, its all about me me me...ha!

May sell again in the fall. I know I cant wait to hatch for myself this fall, Ive got some gorgeous blue rock pullets that I want some babies from.

So I told her that I make no money from selling my birds that I spend $600.00 a month min on feed and she just needed to go down the street. I am not feeding my stock, incubating eggs, raising them to be healthy and then giving them away!!!! Silly people.

Halo, I tell people when I get eggs if I have a crack or anything, but I don't mean anything mean by it...just information. I certainly do not blame the seller.

Would you as a seller rather know about the crack or not? Just curious.

I could NEVER breed chickens for this very reason. I would only want them to go to homes where they would be valued every bit as much as I value my birds (and my chickens aren't even 'quality' birds

). I would want to know that they were being kept in a safe, well-maintained environment and would receive a high level of care.
