i was just reading another post and they said something about breeding 2 cresteds together causes problems. i want to know what problems? i was going to breed mine next week but dont want to if it could be bad.

well you can have 1 crested and one non crested crested duck and it should be fine...i hope someone can explain it better,,,

No one seems to be rushing over with certain answers but I can tell you that I read somewhere that the offspring of two crested ducks will not survive birth and die in the shell. I think it has something to do with a fatal gene that will ultimately result in death.

I've been following this thread over the course of the last few days but I decided to make a statement because I don't want you to breed your ducks and become not only disappointed, but unsure of what the cause was. Also, it won't do any good to try. They won't live.

If it's not safe to breed two crested together, what about a male crested to a non-crested female? I have one crested male in my flock of 5 (3 females and 2 males). I've seen the non-crested male trying to mate already (they're 14 weeks old), haven't seen Elvis (the crested one) try yet, but I'm sure he's not far behind. I don't fully understand what causes the crest and whether or not breeding them is a good idea.

i have a pekin drake i can mate with the crested hen. i know that the eggs only have a 50% survival rate anyway and i didnt wanna chace it if there could be problems. guess i will look around online some more and see if i can figure out the problem.
