Won't take long to breed out the birds that aren't smart about covering their toes. Frostbite in January=Gangrene in June is an old adage I have found accurate. Breed that bird to stuff if you want anything out of him.

From what I can determine, that is not the problem at all. Four Aseels, including effected cock were out in weather when it got below 0 F. Only one had foot issues at all, and it was the cock. He was the only one have a reduced weight owing to worm burden. Underweight limits capacity to generate heat and keep extremities warm. The others were in very good weight and had no frostbite at all.

If you go out at night, you will see some that are setting down on the perch covering their feet and they have their head tucked when it gets cold. Some of them won't cover their toes. Those will get culled if it is cold where you live. If you have round perches made out of tree limbs instead of flat board perches, and they freeze the toe that wraps around the stick, then that is on you, there is no breeding that out.
