BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I can't believe a day without rain...so far. But from the forecast, we can look for rain with no let-up in the near future. I'm glad we had a bumper crop of second and third cutting hay last year and we bought far more alfalfa from our neighbor than we needed....ostensibly to give him a helping hand. Looks like our 'good deed' for the neighbor might be turned to our favor because he's not likely to get enough for his own uses.

FYI: Jason has been on BYC for bout 2 or 3 weeks now. He has posted one thing on this thread that I know of. He will let himself be known sooner or later and he will cause NO problems.

FYI !!! Turk will be back soon if not already. He and company will be here with NN hens week after next so I suspect he might wait 'til he gets back home before posting. I'm not going anywhere so he'll have to be good....

Just kidding...there's no reason to think he would be anything but respectful. When he was on before, he did get a bit snarky over a couple posts that he felt were insulting or misplaced but he NOW understands that folks have the right to disagree with the points for which this thread was inaugurated. He's a pretty sharp guy and might have some points of interest.

I have asked him to return his caponization tools for Ariel to use...even though I just ordered a new 'double set' from a nice gal on this site. It will be good to have extra tools...just 'IN CASE'.

Just found out something interesting. Saw a post on our state thread, asking if anyone wanted to go in on a GFF order of on sale breeds. I checked out the breeds posted, half price but still to much $ for me. Read up on their barbezieux chickens, supposed to be a good roaster where bresse is typically poached. And the barbezieux was ranked third best tasting chicken according to the French food guide 'Gault Millau'. I had to find out what was #1. Google search nothing, had to search in French and Google translate, figured it would be some rare unheard of breed, nope! The Naked Neck was ranked #1!

Do Jason and Turk use your avatar signature when posting or do they have their own? Because causing "NO problems" might prove boring.

At this point, Jason uses nothing and the last time I saw where Turk had posted, his avatar was Batman...of all things. He did use mine 'til I found out about it and I 'requested' that he cease and desist.

Just as I have tried to tell folks and also the reason I'm bringing them into the Capon thingy that Jason and Ariel have cooked up.

I received Dr. Carefoot's book, Creative Poultry Breeding in the mail. He writes that the slow feathering gene also causes slower development, but does not affect adult feathering. He states the very slow feathering gene retards comb development. He also states he was able to remove the slow feathering gene from his Barred Rocks without affecting barring.
Just another tidbit.
