OMG, the Speckled Sussex just turned 20 weeks and I found an egg in their coop today when doing a head check before bed. (Once again, I'm a bad Mommy and no nest box, though they HAD been given oyster shell for several weeks, as I learned after what happened with the NNs). I'll be unblocking the teeny tiny nest boxes in the teeny tiny kit coop they're in tomorrow morning. I'm taking the week off of work, feverishly trying to finish their tractor coop they will share with Tank.
I now officially have too many eggs. It's like zucchini - I'm at work: "Do you want any eggs?" "How would you like a dozen eggs?" Making and freezing a bunch of quiche this week... I'm targeting giving eggs to folks who will be looking after my garden and chickens when I'm out of town. Barter is a lovely thing. If I can arrange to barter for the raw cow milk I buy, THAT would be a real score...
One of the SS got in with Tank today, and she squatted and they mated successfully. Guess they couldn't wait until the wedding night... She didn't want to go to bed in her own coop tonight - I think she was looking for him. Soon, soon....
