Breeding for Sex links

Will do. I was going to go grab a photo instead of posting "Will do," but the camera batteries were out. I found a new set. I tested them by taking a picture of the dog. I went outside, I grabbed a little chicken and tried to snap the picture, but the batteries were dead again.

What they look like is young barred rocks, though. I know their mothers were some kind of EE because the eggs were blue. The add originally said "Araucana Sexlinks." It was eBay, during the summer. Mine hatched in late August/Early September.

Sorry,but this isn't completely correct.

To get a black Sexlink, You need a Barred hen with any non-Barred roo (that's not dominant white) The roo can be RIR, NHR, Buff, Black, Blue, Slash, Partridge, etc...... all will produce a form of black sexlinks.

These are some I bred from a Buff Orp roo on BR hens

To get a red/ gold sexlink, You need a roo with gold genes( RIR,NHR,Buff,etc...) with silver gene hens ( RIWhites, Delawares, SLWs, etc....)

Here is a detailed link by tadkerson on creating sexlinks

I bred my BR rooster, Jackson, to my EE hens and every chick comes out with a black with a white dot on their head! So in this case it means nothing! But it is interesting that every chick is barred but they all have pea combs that are either red or yellow. Should be interesting to see if I get any green eggs.

Yes, it's supposed to be the opposite. A not barred rooster x a barred rock hen. I knew that when I set the blue eggs, but I thought maybe the seller knew something I didn't.

I think my little rocks that came from the blue eggs are lovely. Darned batteries. Have to get more this weekend so I can post those pics. Mine have tiny little pink pea combs. One is a little larger and redder than the other two now that I look closely. I think that's my little rooster.

I am going to breed a red Chantecler rooster with Barred rock hens in the spring. Will this work ?

Yes Barring is also sexlinked which makes it fairly easy to sex pure Barred chicks at hatching, males have a larger headspot and or usually ligher color than the pullets and they are the same throughout their life.

Since the roo is Barrred, all of his offspring will be barred, actually more like dark cuckoo in both sexes, probably with some leakage coming through.

With a Barred hen, only the roos are barred.

Will the RIR roo and SLW hen produce rose comb sex link.. Not sure I have ever seen a rose comb sex link. Might have to try that. I beleive I have heard that rose comb is dominant
