Breeding Hambars/Hampbars

cherylcohen

How is the Hambar project going? I like the Hamps better the the RIR so I was thinking of doing the same. I did have one HampXBarred Rock cross and he was a moose. I think I would like more, and he was very mellow too. Can I start this cross with my Gold Cuckoo Marans? I have a Jaerhans too, but he might be to small. But I might try him on some pullets. I have a good friend with Cream Legbars, so we can add them to the mix for breeding back and keeping with the autosexing gene.

Thoughts? suggestions? And I might want to come get some of your chicks to add to my project. I am in CA too.

Hey hope all are great... back in the 20's 30's when Punnett and Peace were doing creating Autosexing breeds the best barred example they had at the time were Barred Rocks... today is a different story... today if I was creating an autosexing breed that laid white eggs like the Legbar I'd use Barred Hollands as they lay a white egg... or today we even have Cuckoo Leghorns to use.... one does not have to use a Barred Rocks in the Breeding of Autosexing breeds.... it is just what they had and used back then.... one could create a Marbar and never leave the breed... just thoughts... and things over the last seven years I have seen in my research into Autosexing breeds....

have a great one

Ah Ha! that is what I have in my garage, baby Marsbars (marbar).....Sorry, so much funnier that way.
So, if I bar an Egyptian Fayoumis, could I call it a Fubar?.....and other breeds?
Making the new names had us rolling.
