Breeding Hambars/Hampbars

Wow all of the sudden Barred Rocks are rare around here

I am sure I will find some one of these days and then the project will begin!

Hey hope all are great... back in the 20's 30's when Punnett and Peace were doing creating Autosexing breeds the best barred example they had at the time were Barred Rocks... today is a different story... today if I was creating an autosexing breed that laid white eggs like the Legbar I'd use Barred Hollands as they lay a white egg... or today we even have Cuckoo Leghorns to use.... one does not have to use a Barred Rocks in the Breeding of Autosexing breeds.... it is just what they had and used back then.... one could create a Marbar and never leave the breed... just thoughts... and things over the last seven years I have seen in my research into Autosexing breeds....

for Hampbars, Rhodebars, Welbars using a Barred Rock is the way to go, as they have the body size and getting to type wont be such an issue. say if you want to recreate the Welbars you could use a Crele leghorn but getting to type and size would take longer and the color of the eggs would be off too.

Thanks for all the help understanding, it would be about the same with Cuckoo Marans also right?
 
Thanks a ton nicalandia..... I never stop looking for more info on them... but I also cull and cull and cull... a bad wing, a crooked toe, comb not straight... you got to go.... :)
