Breeding Parakeets ( Incubation )

Its inside and it HAD a door hinged thing . . . .But I glued it together like a year ago in a "super glue rage"

I kinda tapped it with a stick to see if they would make noise . . .they didnt

So there's no way to look inside? Hmm I'm not sure what to say about that, unless you can actually remove the hinges and carefully pry the door open.

Sometimes my chicks don't make any noise. Usually they do, but I can open the box and take pictures and clean it out a bit and they don't make a sound.

Are the parents still going in the box?

incubation takes place over 2 weeks
rearing takes place over 4-8 weeks
you really need to be able to cheack on whats happening in the box to remove dead babys and unhatched eggs or to cheack on the well being of them to see if they need to be pulled for hand rearing witch is it correct to assume you do not know how to do? the babys will make noise but in the wild if they make noise they can be found and killed there for if they dont know if there safe they will not make any noises at all. if you have any qeastions at all pm me i have not been breeding vary long but i have for a few years have sucsesfully produced and raised chickes from parakeets and finches

The parents are still going in, ya.

I CAN look inside, but I would have to move the nestbox alot and I dont want to scare the parents so much that they wont go back in.

You'll have to look inside eventually...if there's a dead chick in there it's going to make the box waaaaay too dirty. The bacteria will affect any other living chicks and eggs.

It's totally up to you what you decide to do, I don't have any advice about getting into the box, my nestbox is attached to the outside of the cage so I can look quickly.

I'm not sure how your cage is set up, can someone carefully reach in, open the box and then you look in from another angle?

Sooo .. . I ghetto fabulously opened the nestbox, only to not see a chick . .. . . .only 6 eggs. Did she eat the chick !

So, help me out. I noticed her getting big (apparently with an egg) on 9/17. So if she lays an egg every other day, when would she most likely started setting ? Because either she ate the chick, OR I got the set time wrong.

They start sitting after the 2nd or 3rd egg is laid...usually.

It took probably a week after my hen started getting big for her to lay an egg. If your eggs are fertile, they might start hatching in the next few days...if guessing with the days is correct.
