breeding question

Hey Eric,
I got a few questions about the bob birds, If you dont mind...

Have you dressed any you have hatched yet? If so, any white meat?

You mentioned they grow faster, what do you figure the true dressing age would be?

Using a bob roo over a cort hen, would the Bob breed all year round like the cort or just during Normal bob breeding season?

I'v heard about them but have never been able to "Quiz" anyone about them before. Thanks, Bill

To be honest, I have no clue to the above questions.. BUT I will have answers in the coming weeks!

I was told how to cross these birds like this last spring by a guy in Texas that I got some eggs from. I tried all summer to find the right roos and hens with no luck. Last fall I left 2 bobwhites in my pen to overwinter with them to see if that changed anything.. Early spring, I pulled one of the bobwhite roos and all the coturnix roos, kept the bobwhite hens out of sight, and bingo!! They started breeding about a month ago with limited fertility from the bob roo and 4 coturnix hens.

I'm keeping notes and will post everything I find out about the cross this way.. I plan on doing the same with coturnix roos and bobwhite hens as soon as my bobs quit molting and start to lay.

Thanks, I look forward to see'in how your experiment works out. I think Robo was think'in along these lines too. He was'nt as far along, best I can remember. Bill

Brown coturnix. pharaoh what ever you want to call it. and a smaller bob roo in hopes of just a decent sized bird in 10-12 weeks that can get up off the ground and move!
