I have EE'rs, Welsumers and Cuckoo Marans (among others). I'm keeping two CM roo's and one Welsumer roo for my 40 girls (make that 39 girls..one was killed last night). If I breed them next year, can I breed the second generation back to the first? Or do I breed the second generation to itself? Or do I need to get new blood?

Are my CM pullets most likely related to the CM roo's? They are from McMurray and I would think they have a very large breeding pool.

So I shouldn't breed the second generation with each other?

I'll need to make some breeder coop additions in the winter and I had better start working on the hubby NOW!

Breed the roo to the hen and hatch the offspring. Then breed father/daughter, mother/son. I've always heard that problems arise when you breed siblings as their DNA is too close or something like that.
