I hope this is the right place to post this. I got 2 banty frizzles this year, a hen and a roo. I'm hoping to try for some chicks, but this is my first roo and don't know anything about the process
I figured I would let nature take its course, but I'm wondering where I would find some more information about it? I've googled and searched the forum a bit, but can't quite find the answers that I'm looking for. Some of the questions I have....
They are about 3 months old and I've seen the roo try to mate already. Is it possible to have fertilized eggs this time of year? Seems like a stupid question, but I don't know if chickens are only supposed to have chicks in the spring or early summer...
The frizzles are running with the rest of the chickens, 3 RIR and 3 barred rocks. Can the rooster mate with these hens? I'm thinking the difference in size could be an issue, but I'm just not sure
Do you let the hen worry about brooding the eggs or do you get an incubator?
Sorry for all the newbie questions! Maybe if someone has a book they could reccomend or a place to read up on this, that would be great. I just can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!
