Breeding Season

How do you do fertility checks?

Cut off the top of the egg, dump in a white bowl, and have a spoon ready!

Look in the yolk for the a white dot (not the bladosterm! ) . If it is just a dot, it is unfertile, if it has a dot and a ring (bullseye) it is fertile.

Hope this helps!

Yes it does help. I'm very new to this so I'm trying to pick up all the tricks of the trade so to speak.

Obviously the amount of light they get daily is a factor, but the temps can affect them too. Your best bet if you want to keep them breeding/laying all winter is to put them in an enclosed building with 14-16 hours of light daily. A little heat wouldn't hurt them either

I have been doing that for the last 3 weeks. I guess those eggs were just not fertile. My roosters are crowing so you would think that they would be fertile.
