Breeding silkied Cochin bantams to the Standard

Pics
A third baby was out when I went up just now to get the hatchlings moved to the brooder. Looking at all of them now, I think the first two are actually both Blue and the third I'm not sure of yet because she hasn't fluffed out yet but I think she's also Blue. Not the greatest picture because they were fussy and trying to find somewhere warm to cuddle, but here they are right before I banded them and tucked them under the heat plate in the brooder. :love

The remaining three eggs are all externally pipped, so I expect the rest will be here before too much longer.

Pure, distilled adorable!

Washburne's lonely only has an external pip and is talking away under her! :wee Unfortunately it's a bit early, so I think it's going to hatch with just enough time between it and the two incubator batches that I'm not sure I'll be able to graft any more chicks to her; the ones already hatched are likely too old to properly bond to her and the ones due next don't even go into lock down until Thursday. Hopefully the little one does just fine with all of mama's attention. :love

Wash is sitting tight on her baby still today. I went ahead and set up a little fenced area for them in the coop so that mama and baby can bond and eat and drink without interference from the other birds in that flock. I'll have to look closer that that baby once Wash brings her out of the nest, as I currently can hear her peeping in there but can't find her in mama's fluff. 🤭 That's mostly joking for the record--baby is fine and snuggled with her mama!

Oh, the brooder babies, for the record, are two Blues and four Blacks! I went back and forth on one of them, but she just had a lighter tone to her due to the amount of yellow on her and now that she's fluffed she's definitely Black! I'll see about getting their proper pictures some time today or tomorrow. :love

The very last batch for the year goes into lock down tomorrow, too. I really love having my brooder babies, but I'm feeling a bit relieved that hatching will be fully over for the year. Juggling babies in brooders and incubators and under mama hens has been pretty crazy!

As much as I've hatched over the years, this is my first birthday chick, and completely by accident :love Baby looks bluish like possibly a Bl^d baby, but I'll wait until she's fully dry and fluffed to judge for sure.
