days are a coming !!

No offense, but it sounds like someone knows you're a newbie to chickens and is trying to take advantage of you. That's way more than they're worth, for pet quality birds.

I agree. Sizzles/Frizzles/Frilkies/and smooth Sizzles are NOT worth that much, unless they're from good lines, and even then that's waaay too much.

I spent $75 for three chickens last fall, the breeder had won the national championship for that breed in 2012. I first learned how to keep chickens alive by buying "Cheap" chickens from different hatcheries "bargains". the three hatcheries were Cackle, McMurray, and Mt. Healthy. all three had healthy chicks and I learn a lot every day I have chickens. Lots of predators in my area so keeping chickens alive especially the breeds you mentioned is very difficult. You might check with the feed store in your area and buy six from them for about $5 each.
That is actually my plan. The local TSC is having chick days and I plan on just starting there, master the basics, and go from there. I have my coop started and it will be complete by the time my chicks gets out of the brooder. :) My daughter wants to show a silkie in FFA in a few years once she reaches the age requirement. She has been in love with "those fluffy birds" since she saw one my cousin's farm.

didnt mean to jump your post, guess we both know now. lol i have a frazzle !!!!

You are fine. I don't mind. I am learning a ton by asking questions or reading questions others have asked. Now I know how to avoid getting a frazzle gene. :) I wouldn't have known that if you didn't jump in, so I should be thanking you.

I am not in the least offended. I am a newbie when it comes to raising chickens. I just helped my grandparents when it was time to "harvest" shall we say. When it comes to breeds, raising healthy chicks, and just about anything else I am green as grass in Ireland. That is why I asked. I am learning a bunch of things every time I log on this site.

I agree with Granny Hatchet. I personally wouldn't pay that much for them. They're cute............but 45 bucks each? For something cute to look at that might give you a few eggs a week, I'd say it's over priced. I personally like Seramas and Sebrights for pet chickens, especially silver sebrights. I like them A LOT. But I still wouldn't pay that kind of money for them.
I agree with mrs1885. 45.00 each? Ouch!!

Just adding to the chorus of folks that are saying too expensive. Anytime hybrid gets mentioned, or they're not standard that just means they're mutts. Around here layers go for $15-20. Nothing wrong with paying for truly good quality (which is the other thing people seem to not understand). But that doesn't appear to be the case here.

Anything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Sizzle breeders who have multiple generations into their birds command significantly higher prices that someone that simply crossed a silkie to a frizzled cochin or polish and offer the maturing pullets for sale. You will see the difference in the quality of the birds, as well as their ability to pass on the genes they have inherited.

So, ask some questions: how many generations are into breeding these particular birds? What exactly do you mean by "a frizzle"? (ANY breed can be frizzled; frizzle in and of itself is not a breed in the US--in some other countries it is, but not in the US). Do the sizzles and frizzled silkies have five toes per foot, walnut combs, foot feathers, black skin?

Frilkie is an incorrect term, and is a frizzled silkie: silkied feathers that are frizzled.
A sizzle has frizzled, but NOT-silkied feathers; all other traits are of a silkie.

Ask for photos and references. There are some sizzle breeders whose birds are worth $45 or more, and others whose birds are not.
