Breeds that are sexable at hatching?

Rhode island red can be an autosexing breed, the crele variety of any breed, the buff brahma, the fifty five flowering leghorn and the ancobar are all autosexing.

Barred rock are semi-autosexing. If you see many BR chicks, the better you will be at sexing. Head spot, leg color and beak color can be used together to increase the accuracy.

The rhode island red have to be selectively breed to produce males and females that can be separated at hatch.

Thanks tadkerson

for this and all the expertise that you post on chicen genetics... simply awesome!

and Firetigeris -- yes, hybrids are 'mutts' and not breeds aren't they? Ooops.

I wonder now how mutty my flock is--- I know about my golden comet, but I wonder if there are other genetics in my BPRs--as I learn about the 'standards' -- I think I see some misses. Hmmm.

Not being a breeder/shower it doesn't matter to me exactly what their lineage is...although it would be interesting to know.

But thanks again for the reminder that hybrids aren't a breed.

With Barnevelders you can sex them by the triangle on the top of their head. Very straight definitive triangle...pullet. Slightly blurry triangle...cockerel. Takes a little practice, it's not quite as slam dunk as the sex-links.

American Dominiques, some strains better than others maybe, and it is not a 100% sure thing. Didn't really work for me with my first batch of chicks. Using the information in this link I thought I had four cockerals and it turned out to be two males and two females. I wish I had banded them and taken better pictures to compare later generations to.
