I had liked the look of this rooster as he was built nice and wide. When I started hatching from him though I wasn't crazy about the offspring, the boys were coming up TOO wide. So we swapped him for his younger brother and we're back on track again.
He was 1 year old, dressed out at 5 lbs, 12 oz. He had started to lose some condition and wasn't as perky as I wanted him to be, which further sealed his fate on becoming a cull. Then I went over his sons when they hit 14 weeks and that sealed the deal for him and them.
He spent ample time in the propane fired "oil-less" fryer, until the skin got nice and crispy and the internal temp was good. Quite tasty! Spaghetti Squash on the side.
We acquired a Yardbird plucker, this season we'll be efficient in the culling. We got through 15 extra cockerels in no time! It really was 15 seconds to a totally clean bird.
