Bresse Chickens

I'm really looking forward to home made chicken stock made with feet in 4-8 weeks when my dp meaties go to freezer camp.

The one is still not drinking/eating & just sleeping. I gave it poultry cell by dropper, just a couple drops. Tonight we build another brooder box lol and start the coop.

We're getting muscovy ducks this weekend and a few extra drakes to grace my thanksgiving table. It's not so much work once everything is set up, but I'm still figuring things out.

Muscovy is my new favorite thing to eat.

Do you have muscovy ducks? I just cleaned out the brooder box and took pictures

The one on the bottom is the one that is struggling. There's another chick with a dark something on it's butt, is this pasty butt or umbilical cord?

yes french white the production breeds, huge and fast an ohhh soo tasty.

Where did you get your muscovy ducks from? I can find some locally, but for a sustainable flock if you have good lines that work well, I would be interested! Fast growing yummy meat... yes!!

I got mine from 2 bycers xeltic oaks farms and.... someone in west Virginia I can't remember the name. If you can take the hit for shipping id recomend spending more and getting a s3xed trio from celtic. Muscovy eggs do NOT ship well I got 4 chicks out of 2 dz eggs and I have a very good cabinet incubator. If I did it again id get sexed ducklings from celtic. Hand raise your breeders so they love you then let the momma scovies raise the rest and eat them.

It is worth investing in the french whites imo they are significantly faster. My next project is to add a pekin hen for moulards. Should be faster still and crazy tasty. I had moulard at a fancy resteraunt in dc and it was also exceptional. A little more ducky then the muscovy that tastes more like filet . And of course then you have poor mans /cruelty free foie gras too.

Ok I'm NOT getting attached but them and mom are hanging with me and the dogs while I drink my coffee.

Suuuure.....
Bet the end up living in monmas pen forever!

Oops i thought I posted this in northern ca thread :)
And I think 3-4 are boys so they can't stay forever .
BUT...it was pretty cute to see them run across the wet patio and do a long slide into the grass :)
Edited: those are French muscovies from chiqita not Bresse ;)

Even the regular Muscovy, which I think I have, grow very fast compared to chickens. Nothing like roasted duck.

Chiquita--Do you have a favorite recipe for froigras

Lol I realized that sorry for taking the subject off topic by going to muscovy ducks lol.

I gave the lethargic one save a chic via dropper 3 times in the last hour. I hope it pulls through
