Bresse Chickens

D'où?

Pardon my French.

From where? I'm really curious. Or did someone smuggle them out, in which case you'd have to kill us, if you told us?

Well that's interesting. Seems now they have made it to the US as well and hey what a coincidence...our flag is of the same colors. hmmmm

so how will the average person get some of these blue foots? or is that a few years down the road?

Fascinating! I'd love to try some. Years ago we were in Bresse - on the drive in, there were billboards with picures of the famous Poulet de Bresse, so we were eager to have some for dinner. We went around to every restaurant in Centre Ville and not one was serving any poulet! Sooo disappointed!

At Greenfire Farms we have legally imported from Europe both the black and white varieties of Bresse and have them on our farm. Consistent with their reputations, the blacks do lay very large eggs and the whites are very meaty. Here's a picture of one of our blacks:

Whenever I go to France, I ALWAYS order a Bresse chicken when I see it on the menu. They are great tasting birds. I asked around to try and get some eggs, and was politely told that it was impossible. The French are rightfully protective and proud of these excellent meat birds.

Just give it several more years and these will not be rare. I know black copper marans and other chickens were rare, but there are plenty now.
