Brewers Yeast: A Chicken Conundrum

I once had a flock that lost their rooster and they were mighty depressed about it. I mixed a beer in with their normal feed that night... happy birds that were considerably less stressed out over the loss.
Styrofoam = Chicken popcorn. Speaking of that, mine LOVE popcorn too, without salt is preferred.

Drunk chickens is what I'm worried about. I dont need anyone falling off the roost, or unable to navigate the terrain to their coop. Not to mention how unaware they might become to airborne threats. Hence why hubs has to take the stuff where the birds cant get to it. Although, it might make for some mighty fine entertainment:gig

I did know a horse that used to drink beer.:idunno
My birds turn their noses (beaks?) up at popcorn, but love the paint and styrofoam. Weird birds. Lol

I was reading about this with wine gunk. Some people were using it to start off their next batch. I was curious about this, because it was to my understanding the yeast died after it reached the max % alcohol for that yeast, or consumed all the sugars in the alcohol. I also heard from the fermentation store that it does make good hatden fertilizer, but can make your dogs sick if they eat it from the hops. Haven't had time to dig into the dog aspect of it yet.

Was this book you're referring to on beer or wine brewing? Do happen to have a title and author? It sounds like a wonderful gift for the hubs.
Yes! The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian It's old enough now to be had cheaply online!

styrofoam and paint chips

Speculating, but paint chips edges can be just as good or better at breaking down stuff as the rocks do. Chickens taking advantage of their environment.

Styrofoam...may serve the same purpose, or on the case of a foam like insulation, may soak up some excess wet from stuff that can aid in digestion.

Hope my madness isn't making you miss important info!

Thanks for the fun conversation!

Sprinkle a bit of dried (or fresh) parsley on the popcorn, visually much more appealing and high in vitamins A, B, C, E and K, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium and zinc (and that's just the parsley!) It aids in blood-vessel development and also stimulates egg-laying.

I think when saying “live” and “dead” with yeast it’s a bit relative, them being single cell organisms and all. But yes, you can save some as “starter” for future batches.

I don’t remember the details...I haven’t brewed since pre-kids...back when if you wanted decent beer, you had to make it yourself. Nowadays, micro breweries pop up like weeds (not s bad thing).

Also, if you whole grain brew, the chickens LOVE the spent grains!
