Sorry, I was busy finding pics...LOL! Thanks guys! The coop cost me less than $150.00 and the hutch about $75.00. I live in FL. and with the heat I wanted a an open style coop. But I am thinking of building an enclosed one. One to match our house. We'll see. Right now the gals are happy. And when the gals are happy the fellas are too!

Wow! Everyone has been chatting it up this morning! Took me a few to read all the new posts!

Punk_Rock your coops are beautiful! Can't wait to see how mine will turn out. If you search for "Red Roost Inn", those are the plans I am following.

Today I have to run to the feed store and then be at work until 10 p.m so not going to be very "chatty" today! Keep posting away though! I love reading everyones post!

Oh yeah! I just put Eggs in the bator! Did anyone else just set eggs?

All those coops are really neat! Isn't it amazing how creative we become when we have chickens? I will have to take some pics and learn how to post them. We had an old church on our property and our son tore it down and he and hubby rebuilt a storage shed with the coop and a storage room off the back. We then had to go back and take a few more rooms out of it for the meat birds and to make a larger coop. We have also built a guinea hut, goat manger and duck house, most of everything is recycled. Our yard just keeps getting smaller...We started all this less than a year ago. I wonder what we did when we just had dogs and cats? lol

Nope, no eggs. I'll either have eggs or chicks at the end of June. Have to wait and see what happens

We used all recycled material also. The wood came from pallets and shipping boxes from DH's work. He stripped out the rusty nails first. The only stuff we bought was a small roll of hardware cloth ( we ran out), chicken wire, a couple of 2 x 4's and a couple 1 x 4's.

Well, sadly I have learned that Doc Martens are NOT the best footwear for chicken keeping. The knobby soles pick up and carry the poo everywhere... including the house.

So I have bought(after getting the wrath of a true red-head...I love you dear) A pair of smooth soled sneakers...old style black Converse, to wear when dealing with chickens. My daughters FREAKED!!! In my oldest daughter's 17 years, she has not seen me wear ANYTHING besides some form of combat boot. I have to say...they ARE pretty comfy!

Hahaha! And from personal experience, never wear flip flops out to the coops either! I learned that last year, but had a brain lapse this spring and had to learn all over again. They don't miss seeing those painted toes! I have also had them go for my shoe strings on my tennis shoes too.

I am learning the shoe string thing (never worried about it with boots), My White Leghorn chases em around the entire time I'm in there. She will climb on them and scratch, like she's joining in with my daughters and saying..."You look wierd in NORMAL shoes!".

Apparently MI has only one poisonous snake, and I found it.

I'm not scared of snakes, I thought it had pretty colors. I snapped a pic on my cell phone and sent it to DH. He sends me back a text..." Ummm, where is that?".... "next to the garage" I say...He says..." ok yeah, stay away from that. It's poisonous!

So, I'm like ok...I need some good work boots for armour. Well, I wear a 3 and a half shoe. So after many hours of tracking down a place that had size 4 works boots....I order them. It took 4 months to get them. They apparently had to have the factory in China MAKE the boots

They do fit nicely though

I won't wear them in the coop now. The bottoms collect chicken poop like you said. I found a kids size old school converse sneaker that I keep in there now
