Bring your "Howdy's" here!

Alot of times they will fight over the chicks and the chicks end up dying. So I would take them if you see problems. In closed up places they stand a chance of getting pecked too. I have also heard that it is fatal for guinea keets to get wet, and even the dew on the grass can kill them. Mine are free range, so I have never had one go broody, we always get the eggs so the wild life does not get them.

That is pretty much what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. We really intended to free range ours and did so for about a week. They didn't go far, but they did wander next door and the house on the other side has a dog that killed like 3 in one day, so back to the hut they went. I love dogs, but looking forward to this one quietly slipping away into the night so my birds can be out again. I know it was our fault for letting them out, but the owner was so rude about it. "If it is in our yard it is fair game". I didn't say a word but was thinking "right back at ya dude!". Now, when it is dark and my dogs alert me and I see his dog inching into our yard by the duck pen my son has the BB gun waiting. I never thought I would be capable of ever hurting an animal until we got birds and now I am the most protective momma around!

I know what you mean about the dogs! We have three dogs that wander over here. One is tied to a tree in my yard right now! I called the people and left a message that before it was not too big of a deal, because my birds will fly, but now I have geese and ducklings that cannot get away. So now it is a big deal! I have been lucky and we have always seen the dogs and tied them up, but one day I am not going to be home and then we are going to have a problem!

About 4 years ago I came home at lunch and found two dogs in my peacock pen (we did not free range them then). They killed three peacocks, one was a mature male with a very long tail. The other two were a young male and a peahen! They mutilated my beautiful birds! Well the guy paid me for them, but I would have rather had my birds! I was out there in shock picking up body parts for over an hour!! So sad!

It took me three years to be able to get more peacocks! Now I free range in the day, so they can escape the wandering dogs!!
