Brinsea Ecoglow 20

Perhaps someone here can answer my question about the Brinsea Ecoglo (because the folks at Brinsea wouldn't);

How long can you use the product to provide heat for 20 chicks?

Seems to me that after a couple of weeks the chicks would be too big to huddle under the unit. Am I missing something here?

It depends on how big the chicks are. I can get 20 silkies under there for six wees. Heritage RIRs on the other had, about 3 weeks.

Some people have mentioned they raise just the front part so the smaller chicks can go towards the back where it's lower and the larger ones in the front where they have more head room. Also, I think the older they get, the less they have to stay under it.

I used the ecoglow for the first time last year. My experience was that after a couple of weeks, the chicks spent most of their time out from under it, just running back in every once in awhile to get a little warmth or when something frightened them. After they start feathering they don't seem to require constant heat.

X2!

We just received our first chicks 3 days ago. 12 EE and 2 Silkies. I love the EcoGlow. It is plenty warm, in fact if I catch one that has just come out I can feel the heat on their back. I pushed one side down a little into the sand so the Silkies could be closer and the others have more room on the other side. They don't seem to really care either way so I guess it is warm enough regardless. No worries about fire hazard and it is dark under there so I leave the light on 24/7 so they can come out in the middle of the night to eat or whatever. I am SO happy I went with the EcoGlow over a normal heat bulb. I also read that you shouldn't use a heat bulb on a plastic tote because it can melt the plastic and cause the bulb to fall into the brooder which would be a huge fire hazard. I never thought about that until I read it a few weeks back so I am really happy I went with the EcoGlow since we are using a clear plastic tote(we can see through under the Ecoglow since it is clear and the chicks occupy themselves by pecking at their slight reflection every so often.

Brought home 15 chicks yesterday and had the EcoGlo 20 set up. Closer to bedtime, I noticed everyone chirping loudly.
I thought to myself, this is going to be a night. They were in a bathroom close to my bedroom. All of a sudden,
not one sound! They slept all night under the EcoGlo 20. Love that thing :)
