Brinsea Ecoglow 20

I haven't had problems with mine. Is it new and purchased from them? I know a year or so ago they did have problems, I'm not sure if it was to hot or to cool, but they fixed the issue as far as I know. The newer ones have a black plate on the underside and the older ones have silver.
Just a thought. I'm sure they will send you a new one!

It's new, purchased from one of their dealers. It has the black radiant heat panel. I received a reply from them and had to forward purchase info since they couldn't find me in the system.

Moved it to where it's now just sitting flat in the brooder tub, on some shop towels for these first few days. The chicks can no longer touch the heat plate, unless they are standing up. Everything underneath it is still in the mid-90's and the chick's backs are reading 100-101. They seem comfortable with that, so I'm not sure what to do at this point. Still seems a bit high to me, since everything I've read says 95 for the new chicks. The temp on the floor surface is what originally tipped me off that something was wrong. I keep reptiles, so I'm constantly temp-gunning things. The floor temp at that point was a bit over 120 F, and I nearly had a heart attack. The lone chick's back was a bit red, poor guy, but she seems fine this morning.

I could just move it up away from the chicks a little higher and leave it at that, but I think my biggest worry is that if this thing isn't working right, the potential for it melting down and setting the house on fire. I do have a backup ceramic heat emitter bulb with a clamp lamp I can hang, but really don't want to go to that if I don't have to. Open heating elements that get that hot just make me so nervous.

Will keep this updated. Just waiting on another reply from Brinsea.

I haven't had any temp problems. I moved the height setting up once before and everything was great but when I went to raise it to the highest heat setting the black plate fell off. I don't think I broke anything as I followed the instructions and didn't apply force etc. It just came off and looks like it was only glued on or something since there doesn't seem to be any actual fasteners for it. Putting it back on the stand keeps it in place so I am not to worried, however for a product that I have only used for 3 weeks and it about 4 times more expensive than buying the alternative...not to happy...I love it other than that and I will be looking to get a warranty claim if possible for when we start the next batch of chicks. It still isn't a big deal, but I am getting really tired of nearly new items failing all around us all the time. I guess there is something to be said about made in the USA, even if it costs more.

I bought an EcoGlow too! I love it, but today when I changed the height on it it completely fell apart in my hands! No Joke!
I emailed the company right away and they called me back within an hour to say they'd be putting a replacement in the mail today.
It's really a great product. Their customer service was wonderful.

I'm not impressed with Brinsea. For such an expensive product, they really don't care if they drop the ball. It wasn't until I sent a nastygram yesterday that I received any sort of response. Almost 4 days after my initial contact with them. They said they'd be putting a new one in the mail to me today. Great, I thought. Then I get the UPS notice today and they're sending it to my old address. /headdesk The paypal receipt I forwarded, along with the registration for it when I got it, use the correct address where I have lived for 8 months. Where they dug up the one they're using, I have no idea. Why not take a moment to verify that, Brinsea, before you send out something signature required?

Brinsea - thumbs down. They'll never see another dime from me.

I got mine this morning. It came pretty quickly, AFTER I had to call and ask where it was. Apparently my card didn't work when I ordered it online, but they never told me, just sent me an order confirmation! They definitely need to get their act together over there as far as customer service....
Anyway, I bought it for use in my classroom next week. I just don't feel comfortable leaving a heat lamp on unsupervised at night. I will keep it at the lowest setting with my new chicks of course, but right now I am testing it out on my 2 week old cream legbars on the second setting. Do you think that's too high? They seem alright. Sleeping and coming out plenty often to eat and drink. The thermometer in the brooder box reads about 78, so I"m sure it's warmer under the ecoglow. Just wondering if anyone thinks I should drop it down, or if I have it right....
Here is what they look like in there:

They look just fine--this year I've been going by the chicks demeanor rather than the thermometer.

Weather in central Ohio has made it near impossible to follow the usual guidelines (95 degrees, less 5 degrees a week) so I've let my 21 tell me. Third hard frost this morning and it's almost May, but in the low 80's last week followed by flurries last Saturday.

Since yours are inside it should be just fine the way you have it set--if they stay huddled underneath most of the time, lower it, but it sounds like they are acting normal.

And how cool to have the Cream Legbars! Heard about them but haven't tried any...yet...:)

Good luck!
