Did you hatch Marans?

Your Welcome!

Any time anyone needs hatching help, they can ask me for it.

Have you checked out the Easter hatch a long? Chicken eggs are set next Saturday for Easter hatching. There is a link in my signature file.

Quick question-the last of our chicks hatched on Sunday afternoon. But there seems to be two in there still that have large pips and I can see them breathing but they don't seem to be breaking out. I'm not sure if this is a survival of the fittest kind of thing, or if I'm supposed to go in there and try to crack the shell open for them at this point -

Helping at the end of the hatch is fine. Look for the assisted hatching guide on here that Sally Sunshine wrote.

The trick is to be very careful and watch for bleeding. Sometimes the egg sack will not be completely absorbed so you have to make sure it does not rupture.

Many times the chick is just stuck to the shell though. If that is the case, wetting the place where they are stuck with a Q tip can get them out. Watch those for pasty butt and spradle leg. Sometimes they will have curled toes too. All of those things can be fixed by using the guides on here.

Congratulations on the great hatch! The rest are in the brooder right?

My daughter says two of them are not doing well, and have crooked toes, cant walk-please advise.
We got involved this morning and helped them out a bit.

Dip the beaks in water and give them time. They should perk up and start eating. You can give them some poly vi sol without iron. One drop on the beak in the morning and evening.

the toes are straightened using a band aid and if they have spradle leg then you use a pipe cleaner or bands to hold the hips together.

Look for the guides from Sally Sunshine.
