Brinsea Octagon 40 Thread

Time to relax and let the Brinsea do its thing. I can't seem to stay away from it. I guess I'm used to the old hova bator styrofoam incubator. So far it is a night and day difference between the two. Can't wait to candle on day 10!

By the third hatch you will have to remind yourself to check on it once in a while. I almost forgot to lock down last night. 22 cuckoo marans made it in

I keep telling myself to just stay away. Still check it 2-3 times a day. I don't open it at all, just look at it. According to everything it is still running perfect.

Here is my hatch schedule. Anything I should add?

That's pretty much what I do. I kept notes on humidities and temeratures for the first 4 hatches, but since getting everything nailed down I haven't been as dilligent this time. Today is day 21 for me. I had 2 pips from 22 cuckoo marans eggs this morning when I left for work. This is my first time running a full load of nothing but the marans. They are starting a little later than my lighter colored eggs. Ususally I will get a Polish or a d'uccle popping out on day 20

Same here. With the foam bators last year I kept daily logs of high/low/humidity. With my cabinet, the first run was for tuning, I logged in the same fashion. I have sets 3, 4, 5 and 6 in now...and I keep a note to remember when to move them to the hatcher tray and raise humidity. It's especially hard as I have mixed chicken and turkey eggs in.

Just a quick update. I checked the temp again last night and all seems to be perfect. I also checked the humidity, it was a couple % off what the digital says on the Brinsea so I bumped it up a little.
Temp - 99.6
humidity - 40%

I own a Heating and Air company so I have a few fancy tools to measure temp and humidity accurately. Both testers are calibrated.

Sounds good. I usually run my temps just a touch above the lower limit, 100.2 is my current "best success" spot.

Having trustworthy calibrated instruments would be nice indeed.

Good deal. I'll see how this hatch goes and adjust from there. Ill candle Sunday and have a better idea of what is going on.
