BRINSEA OCTAGON ADVANCED FIRST HATCH!!!!!!!

Hi Gabe.Linda on Guemes here. Best of luck with those eggs in the Bator. I put eggs in on Sunday morning, and they were a bit porous, too. I will give more oyster shell... :)

Day 21 is today and so far I have three pips!

I have been able to keep the humidity at 73% the reason is because I only have five eggs in the Bator so I could put a container full of water on the level the eggs are in.
I'm confident all five eggs will hatch in this incubator.
How are your eggs doing Linda?
I have the Incubator in my room I wonder if I'll get sleep tonight, lol!
My first pip was this morning so it should start zipping any time.
I'll update soon.

Hi Gabe, my house is moving along. I candle the last weekend and it looks like for sure 21 are developing, and maybe one or two of the three questionable ones, but maybe not. that is so exciting that you have Pippin going on! It seems like mine sleep in the night and then finish up in the morning if they are halfway out, so don't worry if they stop in the night. They will start working to join us in the world early in the morning no doubt. So much fun! Keep me posted. :) Linda

Three hatched so far!
The first one hatched at 2 in the morning!
Second one hatched around 4 am.
And the last one hatch 50 mins ago.
Theres two left one has a pip and the other egg I saw moving last night.
Do you think my temp could be a little low? I left the temp reading on the incubator at 99.8 since I new it was a little lower but maybe it was even lower temp, Because there hatching a day late.

Chicks sure hatch stronger and healthier in this Bator than a styro incubator.

I already have two dozen eggs to put in the brinsea! can't wait.

Fourth egg hatched!
I candled the fifth egg and it looked dead. didn't move that is.
4 of 5 thats pretty good!

The last hatcher.
When is your due date Linda?

I'm happy with this hatch.

So, so cool! I never get tired of hearing totally closed eggs start chirping. Amazing they hatched in the night!

Mine are due to hatch next Sunday, but they are sometimes a bit later, maybe a day or so. I try to start the bator on Friday night so that if they are late I am still home for the weekend, but we had company and I didn't get it done until they left on Sunday. Now they may hatch while I am at work on Monday. :(

Hard to know about the temperature. Time will tell... But if the chicks are strong and well-formed, it is probably not the temperature.

did you do an "egg-topsy " on the last one? Knowledge is power, and it helps when it comes to "being a good farmer". Good to know if the yolk sack was fully absorbed, if there was lots of water inside, suggesting possible drowning on pipping into an air sack with a drop of water inside, etc. It is always a little sad. And I firmly believe it is best to let those that don't hatch just cull themselves naturally, although it is very hard at hatching time!

I think I am going to candle tonight. I want to pull anybody not developing, because right now there isn't room for hatching eggs to pop open as there are 24 eggs in there. :)

Gotta love the Brinsea!

:)

Linda

I wish you luck on your hatch.
yep I opened it from the air sack side and there was some blood right in front of its head I'm pretty sure it didn't get to the air sack yet. A reason it might of didn't hatch is because its head was right under the membrane it wasn't tucked under its wing like I thought it is supposed to be? The egg yolk was about 3/4 absorbed into the chick. There was no water in the egg either which was good to see!
And I did see the egg moving last night! mystery egg was that one?
I feel like I need an octagon eco now, lol!

Gabe
