Brinsea Octo and GQF Sportsman bators, where are the cheapest ones at?

OK, so the first batch is due the 20th (then 24th, and 26th). The first ones are the BCMarans. When do you suggest I up the humidity? Currently I keep it at around 35%. I plan to up it to 60 - 65% .... but when, and would it be ok for the other two bunches?

ahhhh thread hijacker's!!! lol j/k i love the convrsation here anyway!

I don't even check the humidity in ours anymore, on stop turning day put in a pre wet humidity sponge and cya when they have hatched, pull the chicks and sponge out and wait for the next batch. We ran one of ours non stop from Jan 'till about June this year doing just that.

I learned from Katy, and this rate has worked very well for me. We are near the same elevation, so I took her advice. I want to continue with this. I have hatched Marans, Silkies, Serama, barnyard mixes, Delawares, etc. I don't think I should change now. 55% sounds really high to me! That would scare me! I like 30 - 35%, then up to 60 - 65%.

I think what I will do is this ... take the first batch out (the BCMarans) and hatch them in the HovaBator. Then, hatch the second and third groups in the Sportsman.

swheat & Steve ..... I was thinking to just pull out the bottom rack, and sit the eggs in it and put them on the floor of the bottom. This way I could still allow the upper rack to turn. Would this work ok? Is that how ya do it?

asylum .... thanks for the use of your thread! I'm learning alot!

I hate to think that I may need another one of these, just for hatching in! Darn, why don't they have an area that you can increase humidity in, without affecting the other areas? (Or maybe they do, and I don't know of it!)

Yes, you can place the whole tray in the bottom, that will work. I just place my egg holders in the bottom because I have more eggs to fill the tray I just emptied. LOL

I can get 2 holders in one tray and each egg holder holds 59 eggs. (Bantam eggs that is)

GQF has a hatching tray that fits in the bottom, it's wider than the turning trays. The "new model" Sportsman has a taller, plastic coated cardboard hatching box. I don't like it at all. It's great for keeping the chicks in the box but you have to level the turning trays to pull it out.
