Broken ankle healing process!

Hey everyone!!

I'm new to this website and new to having chickens. I've just picked up 2 baby chicks (2 weeks old each) and one of them was limping, and after a quick stop at the vet, turns out she has a broken ankle 😩😩😩 the vet has said we can strap it and hope for the best. I want to do everything I can do help her survive. What are some of the best things I can do to make sure she gets through this?
Hey everyone just thought I'd give you a bit of an update! My chick with the Broken leg is on the way to recovery! She will always have a limp, but she is eating plenty and having a few treats, drinking plenty of water (with ACV in it) and everyday I can see her getting stronger. She keeps trying to walk and get from one end of her little cage to the other (we have her in a seperate space to the other chick so she can heal properly but they can still see each other), and have even set up a chicken chair, so she can have some physical therapy to help her leg get strong! She is such a good little chick and healing so well. Thank you to everyone here for helping out!!! I'll keep you updated when she is walking property again ā˜ŗļø

Hello, Melissa, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I too am not a fan of ACV. I think there is a lot of hype about all the amazing things it can do with absolutely no data analysis to back it up. I would not advise using it. I second @janiedoe's suggestion to offer her water with electrolytes in it. I would put out two waterers, one with the electrolytes and one with just plain clean water. I would also supplement her with a drop of Poultry Nutridrench once a day for 5 days then nothing for a week then do it again. Giving too much can cause diarrhea.
Have you found good videos on how to splint and tape her leg?
Thank you for all of your advice!!! I'll have to get some electrolytes to

Thank you for your help! I'll have to give electrolytes a try!!! ā˜ŗļø I watched a few videos but because everywhere said it will depend where the break is, I went to the vet to get it done and they were incredible. As of today she has been trying to walk around little by little. So we have amazing progress so far!

Hey everyone! Just another update 😁 my chickie is going amazing! It's been just under 2 weeks now and she is walking around almost everywhere and doing amazing with physical therapy, which we have been doing in the living room ahaha Another week and she should be completely healed. We still have the splint on as I'm worried about taking it off too early. Today she has been walking around with her sister and getting even stronger (and more spoilt šŸ˜‚)
