Broken Duck Leg Around Ankle Joint Area

So this is the contraption I came up with using a $1 mini pool noodle. It works great to stabilize the leg, and it’s soft so it won’t hurt him. Just wrapped it with some cling-wrap.

Ouch. Poor Duckie! How did it break?
Great idea on the pool noodle, I may use that idea on our chickens if that ever happens.
What is sticking out of the wrap halfway up?

So has the splint worked? Its been a couple days, has it helped duck walk? I have a turkey with a leg injury. He can’t walk on it at all. It looks really nasty. I put some antibiotic ointment on it But I think a split might work…

Yikes, that does look nasty. Yeah the splint works really good to stabilize the leg. Might need to wrap it tighter for a skinnier leg I’d assume. Just make sure there’s no bones protruding from that break.

Yeah, it’s the wound that worries me..if it was just swollen I could split it and keep it stabilized but with the wound I’m not sure what I should do! At the moment I’m just keeping her safe, off her leg and putting medicine on the wound. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The most serious threat to that nasty wound is infection… she’ll start to feel especially hot around the leg. Definitely clean it really good with and antiseptic and keep it wrapped to keep out dirt and bacteria, but it may not be enough without an antibiotic…
