Broken egg, lost cause?

Will do. I saw what appeared to be movement last night before sleep. Just gotta hope. If the poor thing is alive but has no chance I feel for it, and am sorry it may be hurting, but overall I think the chance at pulling through is worth it. I think I will probably know today

Ok, still have movement. Thought I was going crazy but my wife verified she saw it move.

As the pic shows, there is significant shell damage and the membrane is definitely torn, and visible blood (likely from membrane) but this chick is clearly a fighter (it's been 24 hours) and I will let it continue to fight for life, win or lose. If it survives it will be my favorite.

It's still alive as of now. Not sure if it's injured or needs help, which is frustrating. If I knew, for example, that I should remove it from shell and give it water I would... But I think it's probably best to see if it leaves shell on its own.

Still alive. We also had our 8th just hatch as the whole family watched. 11 eggs to go : at least 3 of those are pipped (one for 24 hours, when should I help?), Plus the broken one. And then our broody has another 5.

All together an amazing experience, and I think by the time I'm done this will be a breeze next time. Never expected to make a shoe for a newborn chick.

Unknown, it was a staggered hatch. Our incubator has 4 days left from when we originally took some eggs from a nestbox where a broody had quit. I thought she was on them for a bit, so all would have hatched by now... But clearly they are still hatching.

The broken egg was from the next door broody(who is still sitting on eggs that haven't hatched) but her eggs are within the same timeframe.

UPDATE:

The chick passed. Don't think I could have done anything, I think it had trouble absorbing the yolk. Perhaps if I'd helped it out the shell at some point and had magic powers, but I think I did everthing I could.

On the plus side, 11 chicks have hatched, 2 more pipped.

The mamma broody has another 6 eggs (where the broken one came from). None have hatched yet.
