Brooder in the coop...will this work?

Agreed with Aart. If you can move that nest box that would be advisable. If anything, I'd worry about the chicks being overheated. If it is cooler outside during the day, and you have a secure run, you might want to block off an area in the run, make sure it is fully shaded and put them outside during the day, move them in at night.

I agree that at those temperatures you do not need any heat source. They will be fine. The sooner they are out there the better. If that brooder has a bottom where they cannot get under it if you prop it up, make some holes the chicks can get through but not the adults.

I don't know what the concern is with that nest up there as long as it is stable. It is a chicken coop after all.

What are you feeding the hens? Once the chicks are free they will eat whatever the hens are eating.

Maybe if brooder top was solid instead of chicken wire

Aart, you still did not mention your concern, but I'll guess you are concerned with a chicken perching on top and pooping through the wire. I personally don't see any major downside to that, that will help the chicks start working on flock immunities and get any probiotics the adults have into the chicks.

That nest up there will block a chicken from perching up there and pooping through that area. If the other chickens are perching and pooping up there to the point it is a problem under the nest might be a goo place to put the food and water.

But I'm assuming that is your concern. You may have something else in mind.

Pooping, possible weakness of wire(collapse), wire hurting chickens feet from walking on it, giant chickens stalkng and hovering over the poor scared little chicky babies(tongue in cheek).
They'll get plenty of immunities just being in the coop,
no need to poop right on top of them :P
