Brooder lamp

Be careful what wattage light you use in the house. It is hotter than you think. If the lamp is directly on the wire, you do not need a 250W heat lamp. A 75-100W regular light bulb is fine to start with, then lower to 40-55 as they get a little older. You can even get a 85W red flood light that will work OK.

My brooder is in a hallway I can close off from the dog and cats.

well we already have a 250watt so i cant change that but the good news is that im using the idea of wrapping the cord around a tomato stake as that suits our house the best

I use a plant hanger, you know the ones that has the back that you mount to a wall and then has an arm that can swing or stay still. Just make sure that you don't hang the light by the cord or have a weight issue as the cord will fray and not a good idea.

I have a long skinny board, about 2 inches wide. It has nails going up it. Its attached to our wooden brooder. Each week, to lessen the temperature, we would move the lamp up a nail. Its the exact same lamp as Southern28Chick has, so as you can see inher post, it has the hook on it. So we would hook the lamp onto the nails, and then use a bunch of twist ties, for reassurance, that it would be secure. I think that two twist ties would have been fine to use, but we used more like 10 I believe.
