BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

My three 5 week old chicks graduated to the outdoor brooder I made this weekend.
I used to keep them in the garage in a rubbermaid tote but they were getting to big and stinky.
This is made from another tile crate just like my chicken coop

The canopy is for tropical downpours and sun screen, I close it at night.

this is my homemade brooder. a large plastic tote a got at Home Depot. my first time brooding young chicks. I cut out top installed hardware cloth on top.

Here is our brooder! HOPING to have chicks tomorrow morning to put in here! They were due to arrive this morning, and they were a no show! ek! So, hope my fluff shows tomorrow cause we are so ready for them! Just using a sheet for the first few days to make sure they have drinking and eating down, then pine chips.

I love seeing all the different brooders we can come up with. Here is my newest one. I was using a plastic tote which they quickly out grew so I made this cardboard one. I put two boxes together, taped the heck out of them and cut a door into the other box and taped around the edges. One side is their sleeping and play side and the other is the dining hall. Haha

they are loving all the extra room. I am loving the cost...a roll of tape.

I was just looking at your thread about converting your horse stalls into coops. We're doing the same thing. Yours looks excellent!!

That's how we felt. We built (well hubby built, I painted) a brooder and put it in one stall, and converted that stall into a baby chick coop. We added a run to it for the babies and put a door in the stall for them to go from the stall to the run. We're turning another stall into a coop for the babies when they become juveniles (since we'll be getting more babies) and adding a bigger run to that. I can't wait until it's all done! Our adult chicks have their own coop and free range during the day.

My brooder waterer lol. The pullets kept messing up their water bowl. Its made of the bottom of a vitamin c container, a scrunchy and a beer bottle. Based on a parakeet feeder.

I cut the bottom of one of these, the rectangular shape bottles seemed to work best

I changed the beer bottle for a plastic coke bottle yesterday, the little red ridge of the coke bottle rests on the edge of the white bottom piece. this makes the water level a little higher.

I was just thinking about this design yesterday....used to have one for the cockatiel and parakeets.....it might still be kicking around somewhere in a junk drawer.
