BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I bet! Happy babies are the best kind. My husband built this to get my 4 girls out of the box brooder and they love it!

I loaded the pic from my phone so I hope it shows!
Nice UrbanFarming - this is our plan for our 1st chicks arriving in less than 30 days. I've seen this design here on BYC - we'll be making ours a bit longer as we'll start them off in it to begin with / probably section it off to 1/3 the overall space with a board and then open it up as they grow.

Nice job by your husband !

Thanks @Sam3 Abq

Thanks Sam! My husband found a picture of something similar to this on the internet and drew it out. It only took about 6 hours (with THREE trips to the hardware store! Haha). Best of luck in your brooder building. If you have any questions I'm sure my husband can offer some advice. :)

Thanks for the offer :) We're right in the middle of our coop construction for our chicks right now. I've sandwiched the brooder building for the week before they arrive - should be more than enough time for the brooder.

Love Santa Cruz area - visited once when I went to grad school for Architecture at uc Berkeley :)

Excited about my new outside brooder box. My hubby built this 5'x3' brooder box for my month old Brahma girls. They've been in a 50 gallon tub. They were happy but they really love their new temp home. Few more weeks it's to the new coop. :D

The paper in in the brooder to reflect the light for the photo opp...

It's warm and still works after 20 years .....

The board is in the coop as the wire floor is starting to bend
after all the young chicks over 20 years and the water seems
to stay a little cleaner .....

Ive had a ferrel cat around all winter, never could catch or trap it. Every morning a gather eggs and i count my birds in the brooder. Today I had 13 (counted twice), I usually only have 12. Hmm...

So I reached in and moved the birds around and I found the extra. All the chics were cuddling with this one. Lol

Oh my gosh!!!! Aww!

Here is my set up...it has worked out great. Keeps the chicks in, temp stays consistent and it keeps the cats and dogs out. :)
