BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

This my big brooder that I move the babies to when they outgrow the large plastic tubs in the house. The big brooder is in my pole building.

This brooder is made from one and a half sheets of flake board with braces in the corners. It does not have a bottom except for a heavy duty tarp. It is all screwed together so it is easy to take apart and store after use. It is 8' long x 4' wide and 2' high. There is a hardware cloth divider in the center that is removable so you can have different ages of chicks separate. I made 4 top panels for easy access. I have a heat lamp and Reveal natural light bulb on each side.

Wow, that is impressive. I really have to up my game! LOL I have to figure out something. My husband is building the coop and would freak if I asked him to stop and build me something else.

Thank you so much for the idea. I think it will serve as inspiration.

This brooder is super easy and can be built in an hour or so. Just a couple of straight cuts. The hardest part is the hardware cloth tops. You could build it yourself!

Our original brooder was a water tank, we will use it again this year but are getting over 100 chicks plus hatching so we will need to make new brooders. I have looked over this whole thread and have come up with a design. We will make it this week and see how it turns out. I just have to thank everyone for all the pics as it really helped me to figure out the design that best suits us.

This is my brooder :) Its only temporary while the ducklings are so young, they were only hatched yesturday. In a few days or so the cardboard box will be replaced with a large guinea pig cage to give the more space but for now the box is doing a perfect job!

I have the heat lamp elevated I've the box with a ladder and I'm using two small bowls for food and water because my proper feeder and drinker are too large and will take up too much space in the box.

I use a large dog crate it has a removable plastic bottom. I put plastic and 1/2 inch chicken wire around it so the chicks don't escape thru the bars. I also put an old comforter around it to prevent drafts . This is the second year I have used it works great and easy to clean. My dogs and cat can watch the chicks and I don't have to worry about them getting at the chicks.

Double Brooder
1 week old babies on the closer side, 2 week olds on the far side. This way they can socialize for a while through the separation wall and get used to one another. The 2 weekers fly/hop in and out of their kiddie pool with ease to wander around by the fencing, but this way they can also get space from the babies with the wall of the pool.

Next year we'll be doing outdoor brooders, but this year we wanted to keep it cheap and simple (and indoors, as we're new to this and check on them more than we need to :D).

This is a recycled wooden box from my hubby's work. We cut out the lid, stapled chicken wire to the inside, screwed on a hinge, and added a latch. I lined the bottom with cardboard and shavings for the little ones. We have 2 of them in the basement...one has 6 assorted bantams from TSC, and we are waiting for our batch of 15 brown egg layers assortment to arrive. Fingers crossed they make it here in the morning!

The sooner I get to them the better. It snowed here....all day! We were hoping the weather would have been more mild by the end of March when we ordered them.

Everyone loves chicken TV!

It's kitty proof for the most part. We added a roost down the middle, and when the chicks are on there the kitty tries to swat at them

I have to round the cats up when I leave the room, can't trust those furballs
