BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Lextextrapper,,you have a fantastic setup as far as a large brooder goes. With a little time and effort, you could install a few wafer thermostats, set up off the floor as high as the chicks heads are,and fully enclosed in window screen,to prevent shavings from entering?? You could possibly install a few red 26 watt light bulbs high on the sides of the walls,,this may help when the heat lights do come on,as to not startle the chicks? Run all wire and electrical connections outside and under the floor for safety. If you have an electricain friend, they may be able to wire a house thermostat into all the heat lights for you as well,,but voltage to a home thermostat is only a few volts. Again, really envy your design, and may use a lot of your ideas in the one I must make this weekend,,over 40 marans are due here this weekend,,with 40 more going in bator next week.Gotta think long term, and large numbers as well here.

I got to hand it to my hubby. He is the best man in the whole wide world! I showed him a photo of what I wanted him to build and he was like, no problem. I made a few suggestions on the differences I wanted, which he said wasn’t going to be a problem. It has 2 doors that open from the top. He literally finished it in one night!! We still need to add some handles for easier opening and closing.

My new garage brooder. It's 4 by 8 and has a middle I can section off. 2 tops that come off for easy cleaning. A place I can hang a heat lamp and I can add a shield around the bottom for drafts! The bottom sits on a 4 by 8 piece of plywood so they will be off the concrete.

I have made a few changes...need to update the pic...there is chicken wire top and we have a frame for the incubator top to sit on so that they can stay warm under it...and it has plexi-glass covering the back half of it...will try to update pic tomorrow...

I have this same brooder that I just bought from someone on craigslist for $45..... I love it. Although mine has no back, for easy cleaning. I am going to make a hinged door for it. It is occupied right now by my 7 Serama's who have just started laying.
