BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

A couple of year ago I was have lots of pasty butts with my serama chicks. Now I mix a little bit of play sand in all my chick starter that I feed to my baby chicks and the result have been fantanstic...I rarely have a chick with pasty butt any more. It aids in digestion.

Here is mine. Its a Kiddie Koop a friend of mine found in the dump. Condition was as is, we just added a plywood floor and replaced one screen.

Its wonderful because it has a side that opens and a closing top and it even folds away when you are done with it. Someone would probably die to know that I have chickens in it haha. I did a little research and found that a company called E.M. Trimble & Co. of Rochester, NY, patented it in November 1913. I think mine is a later year maybe 30s or 40s. I can't find a lot of info other than what I have found on google and really have no idea what it's worth. I have seen listing on craigslist for $50 and saw an older one than mine in alot worse shape on ebay for $285 that didnt seem to be selling.

So if its only worth $50 to $100 bucks, I cant build something like it for that much and figure I will keep it for that since it was free

Here is my brooder..... I used an old shipping crate I got from my father (has a moving company). Then I put a plexi glass window in the side, I cut the bottom out and it has wire along the bottom (with cardboard and bedding over till the chicks are old enough). Also when the chicks are able to fly (probably next week haha) I will put the top on, half wood and half wire (where the lights will be still). Right now it is split up into bantie side and standard side. It is raised off the round about 2 feet and has 4 legs and braces to keep it secure.
