Broodies on eggs? Broodies with babies? Post here.

I'm officially joining this thread. I've had a steady stream of broodies since October (Silkies) - right now I'm at my personal record: out of 10 hens - 8 are broody!

3 are raising chicks, 2 are due to hatch today and 3 have just started sitting.

I missed seeing Mama out and about with her roos and I could tell they were a little depressed and seemed lost without her but I knew she was doing what she wanted to do. All is happy now and all three roos are crowing like proud papas. I think the little blonde is from the Salmon Faverolle roo. I checked out pic of baby faverolle chicks and they were light like it. Not sure about the other two.

I messed up and didn't consider Mildred the broody turkey's feelings when I started to finish the new brooder in the wellhouse - next door to the chicken coop and therefore HER. I found her off her eggs and thought she'd taken a break. Then I found her in the turkey coop on Gails eggs. OH FINE... So I loaded up Mildred's eggs and took them to her. At least she took them back.

New rule: be more cautious and aware of power tool use and hammering near a flighty broody.

Sigh. I'm just glad she's sitting, the eggs are more than halfway now. As to Gail's... we'll see I guess. I didn't know what day she was on anyway. When Mildred's hatch any left over I'll pop in the bator.

This whole broody thing sure is different.

Yay for Babies! In five hours? Lucky you. That's a lot less nerve wracking than the prolonged hatches.

Mildred settled back into the new nest and hasn't budged. Looks like we'll end up with turkey babies some time in April. Lord knows when, I'm not totally certain when she started sitting. I also have our first three turkey eggs hatching in the UglyBator over the weekend. Go babies go.
