Broodies on eggs? Broodies with babies? Post here.

Grrrr I am getting so frustrated!

My broody keeps getting out of her pen, and then she sits down in another nest! I guess I need to pen her up even better.

Last time I caught her, the eggs were slightly cool, but not bad. This time they were stone cold!!!

Do you think they are OK? She is due to hatch this next weekend.

Two more broodies on nests starting today! I will load them up with eggs as the week progresses, as I do not want anymore hens of their breed right now. I am putting the biggest and best eggs under them and hope for the best. I want more hens that lay those extra large dark brown eggs.....

I'm allowing eggs to accumulate in one nest as one of the young PR pullets is showing interest. Since my bator is full, I'm pulling every light colored egg laid and placing the darkest to see if one of these darned things will go broody. If not they can sit til I have some room. It's not to hot out there to store eggs.

Mildred the turkey has calmed down some, I hid her nest some from the others with a couple of hay bails. She hasn't had a fit since I did. Who knows what all this will bring but she has to learn somehow. The other nit has started hiding eggs in the thorns again, I swear she hates me.

Having nothing but inexperienced pullets is so much less predictable than a stable flock. Oh well, when you start over this is what you get. And I have to do it all again in 5-6 months since these are just starter generation and not the keepers. One step at a time. Turkeys are still more frustrating than the chickens at least they lay in the coop.

Hope ya don't mind but I'm going to join this post.

I received 7 Serama eggs from Chickenzoo and right now their sitting pretty under my standard cochin. She's taking real good care of them and since yesterday was day 5, I just had to candle them!! I saw veins in two for sure!!!!

Since this is my first time doing this I'm not sure about the others yet so I left them. I'm so excited

We need to share this with other folks doing the same things, having the same problems, getting past failure and cheering success. It's a lot harder on your own. So welcome.

At 5:30 this evening there were two silkie babies, but I haven't checked since then. It's cold and ugly. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll have 12 babies! Tho the eggs were shipped, so probably won't have 100%, but I'm still crossing my fingers...

I'll post pictures when I can get some tomorrow.

Thanks Equus2! Happy grandmother's day!
