Oh my, Willis looks like he's got it bad for Gretchen, who herself looks like she'd rather be anywhere else!

Willis: "Gretchen, wait for me, my darling!"
Gretchen: "Pardon me, I don't speak quack!"

Went out to check on two broody hens that have been sitting on some Old English BB Red Bantam eggs. Was not expecting a hatch until next week, but surprise there is one peep out. Should see the the other 5-6 over the next few days. This one is black so it should be a girl.

Checked on my broody this morning..None of the other 3 eggs have hatched yet. Still just one baby that is now dry. I thought was white but it is...I think Partidge. I'll get pictures later because its too cold and snowing here to really bother momma or babies.

I hoped more would hatch but one baby is fine as long as my girl got her baby!!! She is very protective too!!! I am so happy!!!

2 more pips!...and loud chirping from the 2..only 1 left!!

The one that is already hatched is Buff...WOOHOO! It looked white when hatched...LOL Then I thought it might be partidge but I got a good look at it while it was peeking out from momma and it is a Buff color.

I wont be bothering momma no more today (I know I said that last time) but I only checked again because I thought the other eggs where dead but they are alive and peeping now. I'll update tomorrow with some pics if the snow and temps are better tomorrow.

I went out to check on my broody.. and it was an awfull smell...

I lifted her up to see and another egg had broke.. so I let her walk around for a few.. she pooed a bunch right way.. and I set to cleaning out her nest.. I have her in a sams club box.. actually to transport spagettie.. so I have two exact same boxes.. so I filled another box with the pine shavings. (i am noticing less cracked eggs since using this bedding) and went into the dark shed and candled as I put them in the new box.. it was one of the babies that survived the flood.. we are down to two... but light wont even shine into their eggs.. they are totally filled up with chick.. the rest ..

it is hard candling... they look like the other ones did.. but i still just cant tell I will give another week and then if they still look the same then I will get rid of them.. I havent let the girls roam with the rooster much lately because we are trying to de-wild the little hen that was given to us.. I dont want to have to catch her again! So I leave the girls in because we dont just leave the gate open... and then we have to go and catch them for bed.. rather then themseves just going.
but I have a second broody.. so whatever she doesnt hatch and are fertile I can stick under her..

only a week behind.

Can you still see an air sac? what day are they on? if you cannot see an air sac either its already piped through the air sac or its a rotten egg. I delt with this myself I candled and could not see an air sac thinking it done piped through the air sac. Big mistake it was rotten and it blew up in my hand.
