That's excellent! Bodes well for a good hatch rate. When I candled 5 eggs on day 6, 4 out of 5 had veining for sure, but my flashlight was dying and I couldn't be sure about the 5th. So far I've hatched 8 out of 12.

Crossing my fingers for you!

Thank you! I wasn't sure on three of them, but once it got darker and I recandled them, I saw veins on two of them. I'm so excited! The veins looked so cool! But then again I do have 5 roosters in with them - all bantams. But only three of them actually mate with them. If the other two try they are booted right off by my top silkie roosters!

Well...the growl y bird had a baby probably more but I have to figure out where to put them and I am NOT moving her yet...her baby that I did see was like a gray blue with a chipmunk stripe down the back. I didn't have my camera then but I will be trying to snap some when I am done with daycare.

So anyway - I am still sitting with 6 broodies on eggs, but it looks like they are all bad or mostly bad. The broodies kept trading off nest so I'm not sure if that is what did it or some other factor like the cold at night. The eggs look mostly developed and we did have one chick hatch, but the mom shoved him off and left him in the cold. We found him in the nick of time and he is now 4 days old and thriving. She still has two eggs under her that were set on the 13th at night. I'm just wondering if I can trade out the 4 peeping chicks I have inside for the bad eggs. The chicks are all 3- 4 days old. What is the success rate for swapping eggs for chicks?
