WELL TODAY WAS THE DAY MY SILKY WAS DUE TO HATCH 6 BLRW EGGS I GOT FROM BISHOPSCHIKENS. I JUST WENT OUT TO CHECK ON THEM AND SOON AS I WALKED IN I HEARD PEEPING. SOUNDED LIKE MUSIC TO MY EARS. THERE WERE 2 FOR SURE. NOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO GET DOWN IN THE 30'S TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. I HOPE SHE CAN KEEP THEM WARM. I COULD PUT A HEAT LAMP ON THEM BUT I WONDER IF SHE WOULD GET TOO WARM. HERE ARE A COUPLE OF PICTURES SO FAR.

This is a great thread!!!

I came home from the hospital to find 2 broodies setting on nests and the best I can figure started on the 31st I have another broody tag teaming it with one of the others and I have gathered some fresh eggs so I may give her a nest of her own if I find the 2 broodies fighting over one nest! LOL

I have babies!!!!!!

I have three so far, I think. i am trying not to bug them. I know she has eggs under her from several days, so they should hatch untill thursday or so, maybe longer. I can't take pictures, my camera is broken.

She kept getting back on the wrong nest, and several times the eggs were COLD, so I am very happy to see these babies. I put my lone baby from my incubator under her this morning, and she tucked it right under her!

Well I just checked them a while ago and now I have 5 little fuzzy butts. One more to go, but if I get 5 out of 6 for the first time I won't complain, especially for being shipped eggs. I think I am addicted.....no... I know I'm addicted.

Can I Join? I am getting eggs in the next few days. I am picking up an incubator as back up.. and trying really hard to get my silkie to go broody.. She has probably a week before the eggs arrive..oiy..

She was SO broody for over a month and then I want her to go broody and she won't.. sheesh..

I'm hopeful it will work out and I can put 1/2 the eggs under her.. and put the other half in the incubator..with the hope of transfering any chicks to her when/if she hatches any..

She is a Silkie..so are the eggs that are coming.

One thing I'm wondering about.. I have an 8x10 coop with an 8x12 dirt floor run. The chickens (I have 3 RIRs and 1 silkie) cannot free range due to my neighbors.. Will the chicks be ok? I was going to partition off part of the coop with the silkie and her eggs and then babies (should I get lucky) but they won't have access to the run if I do this..

We are building a day chicken tractor, so the girls can wander the yard in that, eating bugs.. but will the babies with their "mom" be ok with the other girls or do they need totally seperated enclosures until the babies are big??

And food.. do you feed chick crumble or grower's pellets to chicks under a broody?
